Wide Horizons For Children & Boston Marathon 2020!

MEET OUR RUNNER!

We are extremely proud to announce that Sylvia Perry will be running to represent Wide Horizons For Children in the 2020 Boston Marathon!

Sylvia is a force to be reckoned with both on and off a marathon course and WHFC has been extremely fortunate to have her as an active supporter for years. She is a nurse practitioner working in internal medicine and surgical oncology at both Mass General Hospital and Newton Wellesley Hospital.

In 2015 Sylvia traveled with a team of other medical professionals to Ethiopia on a medical mission for Wide Horizons. She spent time working with patients at WHFC’s partner, Leku Hospital – doing hands on training with hospital staff pertaining to EKGs, handwashing and other patient care. While in Ethiopia, Sylvia also accompanied staff to visit other non-medical programs being administered by WHFC.

In 2018, Sylvia returned to Ethiopia for another WHFC medical mission, this time traveling to several rural clinics that feed into Leku Hospital.  She has applied her expertise to advise WHFC about how the local medical services refer to and interact with Leku Hospital. On this trip, Sylvia was also able to visit many families in our Sponsorship Program and visit our School Nutrition Program and offer valuable knowledge and feedback in those areas.

Sylvia is an avid runner and even joined the Haile Resort running club during her last visit to Ethiopia!

On April 20, 2020 Wide Horizons For Children will once again be the honoree of Sylvia’s hard work, determination and caring for the world around her as she pounds the pavement for 26.2 miles to cross the finish on Boylston Street in Boston.

Please join us in supporting and cheering for Sylvia!
