Every Child Deserves the Love of a Family

Today, millions of children risk growing up without a family. This makes them vulnerable to hunger, exploitation, and despair. Extreme poverty can push a family past breaking point. A parent’s death, a medical emergency, the loss of a job, or famine can collapse a household already on the edge. And this leaves children to face the world alone. Worldwide data report that 140 million children worldwide are orphans, a number that continues to rise.

The Campaign for Children in Crisis is a $10 million initiative to meet this urgent need. We will do this by addressing the root causes of family breakdown and expanding proven family preservation programs.

Sometimes, all it takes is 1 person to start a trend. In our Family Preservation program in rural Guatemala, that person is Carlos. And the trend is staying in school through high school.

From Poverty to Professor.

As a child, Dawit barely had enough to eat. Thanks to WHFC’s Child Sponsorship program, he was able to secure sufficient funds to not only get the nutrition he needed, but to thrive in school. Now he is an associate lecturer at the Mekelle Institute of Technology in northern Ethiopia.
