Food Security Is a Complex Issue

But getting nutritious food daily shouldn’t be

The vulnerable children we serve live in areas of great poverty. This means that without your help, they often go hungry and are at risk of starvation because they can’t access food or afford to buy it. For children, extended periods of hunger take a physical toll that stays with them for life. It can stunt their growth, increase their vulnerability to illness and slow their cognitive development.

Our Nutrition Programs

Ethiopia

Through our Family Preservation programming, all participating families have the food they need. In addition, parents receive nutrition counseling and advice from their social worker on how to improve food security, and farming and animal husbandry grants in rural areas.

Guatemala

All families in our Family Preservation program receive monthly food baskets that ensure they have nutritious food to eat every day. With our partners, we run a school feeding program through the local Community Center that gives kids a hot meal after school. Our families all benefit from the organic farm that’s part of the program community — the nutrient-dense produce grown there is in the food baskets and served at the Community Center.

Burundi

All Family Preservation program families receive monthly food baskets — this guarantees that they get at least two nourishing meals a day. In addition, mothers who work on our program partner’s organic farm as part of the Jobs for Pay scheme can take home some of this quality produce to feed their families. We also provide essential infant formula for all babies in the care of orphanages where we work; without this, babies would die of starvation as formula is unaffordable to these severely underfunded orphanages.
