Online Support Groups

Our Online Support Groups introduce important adoption-related topics and encourage adoptive parents and adopted persons to share about their unique experiences, challenges and insights with supportive peers. Our Online Support Groups provide an opportunity to make connections with others, exchange real life experiences and challenges, and share resources.

Facilitated sessions on adoption-related discussion topics including:

  • Identity
  • Race and racism
  • Grief and loss
  • Birth family discussions
  • Search and reunion
  • The school experience
  • Mental health issues
  • Unique issues for adopted persons
  • Validation of your personal experience by peers

We are now offering SIX Online Support Groups for you to choose from. All groups meet weekly via Zoom for one hour, over a six-week period. Each group will have a minimum of four participants and a maximum of 12. We will have a wait list for additional interest once the maximum for a group is met.

Group 1 - Teen Adoptees

This Online Support Group is open to adopted teens aged 12 to 18 years. It aims to introduce important adoption-related topics and encourage adolescent adoptees to share their challenges and insights with supportive peers. Our Online Support Groups provide an opportunity to connect with peers, share about their experiences and explore some common adoption related concepts.

Group 2 - Parents of Adolescents (New Participants)

This Online Support Group is open to all parents with children aged 13 to 21 years. It aims to introduce important adoption-related topics and encourage adoptive parents to share their challenges and insights with supportive peers. Our Online Support Groups provide an opportunity to make connections with others, exchange real life stories and challenges, and share resources.

Group 3 - Parents of Adolescents (Previous Group Participants)

This Online Support Group is only open to parents who have already taken part in a previous ‘parents of adolescents’ support group led by WHFC. This is designed to be a Part II group that will focus on building upon the topics discussed in the initial adolescent groups. This will allow parents to keep these important conversations going and dig deeper on certain topics.  Our Online Support Groups provide an opportunity to make connections with others, exchange real life stories and challenges, and share resources.

Group 4 - Parents of Younger Children

This Online Support Group is open to all parents with children aged 12 and under. It aims to introduce important adoption-related topics and encourage adoptive parents to share their challenges and insights with supportive peers. Our Online Support Groups provide an opportunity to make connections with others, exchange real life stories and challenges, and share resources.

Group 5 - Parents of Young Adult Adoptees

This Online Support Group is open to all parents with children over 18. It aims to introduce important adoption-related topics and encourage adoptive parents to share their challenges and insights with supportive peers. We recognize that the challenges and need for connection does not simply end when our children become adults. Our Online Support Groups provide an opportunity to make connections with others, exchange real life stories and challenges, and share resources.

Group 6 - Young Adult Adoptees

This Online Support Group is open to young adult adoptees aged 18 and older. It aims to introduce important adoption-related topics and encourage young adult adoptees to share their challenges and insights with supportive peers. Our Online Support Groups provide an opportunity to connect with peers, share about their experiences and explore some common adoption related concepts.

Time: Wednesdays from 4 to 5pm EST

Group 2:

Parents of adolescent group (new participants)

Dates: October 6 to November 10, 2021

Time: Wednesdays from 6 to 7pm EST

Group 3:

Parents of adolescent group (previous participants)

Dates: October 4 to November 15, 2021 (Please note, no session on October 11)

Time: Mondays from noon to 1pm EST

Group 4:

Parents of younger children (under 12)

Dates: October 4 to November 15, 2021 (Please note, no session on October 11)

Time: Mondays from 10 to 11am EST

Group 5:

Parents of young adult adoptees (over 18)

Dates: October 6 to November 10

Time: Wednesdays from noon to 1pm EST

Young adult adoptees (over 18)

Dates: October 4 to November 15, 2021 (Please note, no session on October 11)
